Epilogue

After exactly 4128 km - a little bit more than the planned 3500 km - I had killed:

  • one less quality rain jacket
  • one set of tires
  • thousands of mosquitoes
  • tons of swedish sweets

I got:

  • some new friends
  • reunions with many old friends
  • much experience what you should consider for a big tour
  • more heavy rain than I ever want in my life
  • a very good time in sweden and germany with many kind and interesting people

It was a great tour and I hope to do one of these big tours a year. The next will lead me to scotland, with B&B, visiting a very good old friend, all kind of british food (and sweets) and hopefully many special people and maybe some new friends.

On tour back to south with little stop at a special roadhouse

After some days with my family and visiting all the old friends nearby, I had to drive back to Augsburg today.

First I stopped at a motorbike supplier to buy some new and better cloth against rain - a good idea - the rain starts shortly after that.

Very happy with my rain-protection-cloth, I rode very relaxed on the highway - but not for long. Near Göttingen all traffic jammed! Total stop. Shit.

After waiting some time I decided to drive off the highway. A motorbike can be very useful, if you are captured in a traffic jam ;)

After some very winding roads I arrived in Uschlag, where I visited an old friend. She offered me a delicous meal and we talked hours and hours with very lively and funny childs around us. Sadly I had to start at the evening to get back home in time.

The last part of my tour was less thrilling and near Ulm, only 100 km from Augsburg away I thought there can’t be any problems more. Fault!

It starts to rain again, and it gets more and more foggy. The f… cars around me where sputtering the water from the road towards me. At the end I did’t seen anything and was driving slower and slower.

Finally I arrived in Augsburg, took my stuff from my bike and fall asleep literally before I hit the bed.

Back to germany

At monday I decided to ride back to germany because the weather went rainy and the forecasts for the week weren’t better.

So I saddled my bike again and drived down from nässjo to trelleborg to catch the ferry to rostock. It was a relaxed ride in sweden to the ferry and a much more relaxing crossover with the ferry.

After having a little nap on the ferry I was fresh for the last 300 km to lachendorf where I am enjoying my last days of my freetime now.

But after leaving the ferry there was one last “surprise” for me. checking my bike, a automatic routine for me after some days on the road, I detected some bad behaviour of my back tire. It did an unusual “bling, bling” more like a rapper style accessoire than a dark and beamless rubber tube.

What does this mean? The highways and sometimes rough roads demanded their tribute. The tire was down to it’s carcass and you could see a little bit of the metal through the rubber o.O

Outch! I decided to drive veeeery slow over soft and sleepy road, way of the highways to protect the last few millimeters of rubber. Fortunately it worked well and after some organisatorics I will get a all new set of tires today. Luckily me with good friends at my old home in the north of germany.

In the next days I will check the big bunch of photos I took on my journey and will expand this blog with photos, roadmaps and some more stuff.

Just relax

Since yesterday I am in nässjö, visiting two very kind couchsurfers, which give me a dry place to sleep.

We had a delicious menu. It is their special CS-Menu they said. And I can only suggest it. It tasted great!

We talked a lot in “denglish” and it was an interesting evening.

Today I have done a little sightseeing with David, one of the CSers. He showed me some nice roads in the middle of the nature, just around the corner of nässjö. After that we went to some old houses, which where transported to an open air museum in nässjö to protect them from demolition.

In the evening another couchsurfer will arrive. A girl from stockholm.

Monday morning I will steer my bike to south, back to germany. The weather in Sweden gets wet so I think it is time for my visit of my parents in lachendorf.

This time I planned to take the ferry from trelleborg to rostock to hopefully have a more dryer tour to germany than the tour monday last week.
